CND Gravity Single Handed Rods
The CND BV GT single handed rods quickly got a large following in Scandinavia when they arrived on the scene some years after their legendary double-handed relatives. The rods were characterised by extremely slim blanks, fast recovery, although not with the tip-flex action so common among many single-handed fly rods.
The BV GT single-handed rods are now replaced by the new Gravity series. The upgrade is stunning. CND uses the new, nano-pitch improved prepeg (graphite cloth) for all the Gravity rods. The result are rods which have kept many of the characteristics of the BV GT single-handers, with a considerably reduced swing weight! In addition, CND have developed all-new Gravity rods for saltwater fishing, ranging from 9′ #6 to a 9′ #11. The rods are developed in collaboration with experienced casters and saltwater anglers, most notably Geir Hansen, Jarle Strandberg and Runar Kabbe.
Here’s what Runar has to say about the new rods:
Gravity 10' #7 and #8
Single-handed fly rods suitable for efficient, modern salmon fishing have often been overshadowed by double-handed rods, primarily due to spey casting. Not that you can’t spey cast with a single-handed rod, rather you should learn to if you can’t! We claim that every modern salmon angler should have a proper single-handed rod in the arsenal, maybe except for early season trips fishing very large rivers in high-water conditions. Dry fly fishing, riffling hitch and efficient swinging on smaller rivers – these are all situations where a single-handed rod excels over a double hander.
Nordic salmon fly anglers tend to prefer a 10 ft single handed rod over a 9 ft similar. Sometimes we recommend people who get worn out by the 10 ft rod to consider a shorter rod, especially if they use it for dry fly fishing, involving much blind casting. With the lightness of the Gravity 10 ft models, this downside of previous single handed 10 ft rods is as good as gone, as far as we consider it. If you didn’t think modern graphite rods could get much better, try these, and dare to compare with your current favourite

CND Gravity 10′ #7 is the rod for riffling hitch, bomber and other light single handed salmon fishing. Shooting heads of 17-19 grams or WF#7 suits the rod very well.
10′ #8 is a powerhouse; here you can use proper sinking lines. Works excellent for spey casting with the recognizable powerful top and the delightful bend down into the cork. This is a rod you can fish really large salmon with. Heads of 19-22 grams or a WF line in #8 make the rod perform at its very best.
Gravity 9' #11
This rod has a deeper action and more powerful tip than similar rods in the 11-weight class. What’s unique is that you still have an equally fast line speed, which is particularly important in tough windy conditions with large flies. With the Gravity, you have an extremely good line feel throughout the cast, while feeling that the lower part of the rod never gives up. Gravity has an extra gear.
The rod action is easy to cast, a perfect action to provide casting and fishing pleasure. We have fished with Gravity prototypes on several occasions, in all conditions, and finally reached the goal with an 11-weight rod. It is perfect for coalfish fishing with heavy sinking lines, as well as halibut fishing, and tropical fishing for Tarpon and GT.
Also in this 11-weight rod, the use of the unique carbon we have access to comes into its own. With thinner cloths crossed several times, you get a resilience in the material that is unique, resulting in lightning-fast recovery.
Gravity comes in a deep green finish, black ALPS aluminum reel seat, fullwells cork handle, powerful fighting butt, and Fuji rod rings. Like other CND Gravity rods, the 11-weight rod handles a variety of different lines. Recommended line weight is 26-27 grams.

Gravity 9' #5
The result of CND’s new technology combined with thorough testing of various prototypes has resulted in a 9-foot #5 rod weighing 88 grams. The rod has been tested with the full spectrum of five-weight lines available on the market. We conclude that this rod handles all types of fly lines, from the most delicate tapers to specialty lines for water casting. The tolerance for the weight of the fly line only reinforces the properties of the new material we have at our disposal in our Gravity series. The ability to cut thinner carbon cloths than previously possible, with a cloth of high modulus resolution, gives you a response in the rod blank that borders on addictive.
You’ll notice that this rod is unique even with just a few meters of line outside the tip ring, and it lays down a short cast perfectly. The control of the line loops and the laydown is perfect. If you then add a bit more power to cast far with a double haul, you’ll get acquainted with power reserves that provide excellent line control on long casts. This combination is truly unique and something everyone strives for. In other words, this is a truly all-round rod, in addition to CND’s well-known excellent qualities for water casting.
The word “recovery” has rarely been more aptly applied than in this context. Here, you have a fantastic rapid recovery. You’ll experience smoothness where you activate the entire rod, which is an important part of CND’s rod philosophy. This is of great help when fighting fish.

Gravity 9' #4
New for 2024 is the CND Gravity in the 4-weight class. Here, we’re talking about finesse fishing for still water and smaller rivers. With a smooth, soft action and a slightly softer tip than the 5-weight, this is truly the rod for those who want a rod for shy trout. The rod has been tested in both still waters and rivers with most types of lines. Although the rod is designed for finesse fishing, it packs a surprising punch when you occasionally need to cast long distances. The rod is well suited for all types of water casting/spey.
We recommend Guideline Experience+ or Presentation+ as the main line. If you fish a lot from a belly boat, Guideline Fario CDC WF is a good choice, and if you’re fishing in very tight spaces, Guideline Brook is a good alternative.
